The host city of the Face of Ghana Holland Beauty Pageant 2007 is Amsterdam. Amsterdam’s appeal lies in its rich cultural heritage, diverse and creative culture, commercial dynamism and high quality of life. A city sprung out of marsh and grasslands, surrounded by water and floating on a web of canals, Amsterdam has uncovered innovative ways to thrive within its surroundings. The city’s strongest asset is its people. From its humble beginning as a fishing village on a river bed to its current role as a major hub for business, tourism and culture, Amsterdam has had a strong tradition as a center of culture and commerce. Amsterdam is an international city of culture with a highly diverse population from various backgrounds enjoying a broad range of arts and culture. With its unique combination of old world charm and cosmopolitan culture, Amsterdam is one of the most popular European cities for international visitors. There has been a great increase in the ethnic population as well as immigrants, among who are more than half the officially about 20,000 Ghanaians in The Netherlands (source: CBS July 2006), from virtually all corners of the world. A third of the Ghanaians in Amsterdam reside in Amsterdam Southeast, especially the Bijlmermeer, where the venue of the pageant is located.  Little wonder therefore that Amsterdam plays host to the maiden edition of the pageant.
